Online Workshop “Introduction to data analysis with R” // 27.2. – 2.3.2023

 

Course offer by the Graduate Center: This workshop offers an introduction to data analysis with R.

The main goal of the workshop is to give you the basic skills you need to start analysing your own research data with R. You will learn a complete R workflow for data analysis, starting with reading, preparing and summarizing research data, and visualizing the results. Starting from this knowledge basis, you can confidently expand your R skills in a direction that is most useful for your own research work. In 4 workshop days we will cover the following topics:

• Introduction to R and R Studio
• Basics of R Programming
• Good programming practice
• Data analysis using the tidyverse packages (preparing, filtering, grouping, re-organizing, data visualization with ggplot, …)
• Getting started with your own data analysis

 

Who is the course for? Doctoral researchers registered at the BCP department, Postdoctoral researchers at the BCP department

When?                             Monday, 27 February, to Thursday, 2 March 2023, 9 am – 4 pm

Where?                            Webex Online Course (Please note that a video camera and a microphone are necessary for this course.)

In March 2023, this retreat will be held in person at Hotel & Spa Sommerfeld. During the retreat, you are going to learn techniques that will help you to kick off your doctorate and you can meet and network with other doctoral candidates. Participation is free of charge.

Mit den UniWiND Lunch Sessions hat UniWiND eine neue Online-Veranstaltungsreihe zu aktuellen hochschulpolitischen Themen ins Leben gerufen. Die Veranstaltungen finden mehrmals pro Jahr jeweils von 12:00 bis 13:00 Uhr per Zoom statt und werden in Kooperation mit der Hamburg Research Academy (HRA) organisiert.

März 2023 von 12 bis 13 Uhr freuen wir uns auf Dr. Anna Böhme, Programmdirektorin der Gruppe Graduiertenkollegs und Karriereförderung in der DFG-Geschäftsstelle und Beiratsmitglied von UniWiND. Die Session wird einen Einblick in die Arbeit und die Entscheidungsstrukturen der DFG zum Thema Wissenschaftliche Karrieren bieten. Dies ist interessant, da die DFG von vielen Wissenschaftler*innen und Wissenschaftsmanager*innen manchmal als „Black Box“ wahrgenommen wird.

Wussten Sie, dass der Titel „Ph.D.“ nicht die englische Übersetzung des deutschen Titels „Dr. rer. nat.“ ist?

 

Auf Basis der Promotionsordnung verleiht der Fachbereich Biologie, Chemie, Pharmazie bei Individualpromotionen den akademischen Titel „Dr. rer. nat.“. Der Titel „Ph.D.“ wird nur auf Wunsch an Promovierende von Graduiertenprogrammen verliehen. Es handelt sich dabei nicht um eine mögliche Übersetzung, sondern um einen anderen Titel. Auch in der englischsprachigen Version der Urkunde bleibt es der Titel „Dr. rer. nat.“. Der Titel darf nur in der verliehenen Form geführt werden.

Auch wenn Sie sich erst bei der Dissertationseinreichung entscheiden müssen, welchen Titel Sie anstreben, empfehlen wir, die Entscheidung dennoch möglichst zu Beginn der Promotion zu treffen. Um den Titel „Ph.D.“ zu erhalten, müssen Sie ein DRS Promotionsprogramm vollständig absolvieren. Did you know that the title “Ph.D.” is not the English translation of the title “Dr. rer. nat.”?

 

Based on the doctoral rules the Department of Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy awards the academic title “Dr. rer. nat.” for individual doctorates. The title “Ph.D.” is only awarded to doctoral students of graduate programs on request. The title “Ph.D.” is not a possible translation, but a different title. The title "Dr. rer. nat." also remains in the English version of the doctoral certificate. The title may only be used in the form in which it was awarded.

Although you do not have to decide which title to pursue until you submit your dissertation, we recommend that you still make the decision at the beginning of your doctoral studies. In order to receive the title "Ph.D.", you must complete a DRS doctoral program in its entirety.
