Postdoc-2-PhD Mentoring Program //  Application Deadline extended: May 6, 12 noon

 

The program provides an open and supportive environment for you to accelerate your professional development. You benefit from a confidential space in which you can discuss and clarify your professional and personal goals.

 

Mentoring pairs consist of 1 postdoc-mentor and 1 mentee, who meet monthly over a period of six months. You will be assigned to your postdoc mentor during the matching event on May 8, 2024, 9 - 11:30 am, based on the information provided in your application (focus of interest, career trajectory, etc.).

 

The kick-off workshop will take place on May 21, 2024, 1 - 5 pm, participation is mandatory.

 

There are still places available, so the application deadline is extended until May 6, 12 noon!

The second amendment to the doctoral degree regulations has been published in the “Amtsblatt der Freien Universität” Nr. 12/24 (in German language) and has therefore come into force.

 

In particular, those who wish to submit their dissertation in the near future are asked to consult our website for up-to-date information.

Career Perspectives with a PhD in Natural & Life Sciences //  June 13, 5 – 6 pm

 

Looking for career options after your doctorate? And not sure what is “out there”? With the series "Career Perspectives with a PhD in Natural and Life Sciences", we would like to offer an opportunity for interactive and informal exchange about career-related topics. You will meet former PhD candidates who will share with you their experiences including ups and downs looking for a job. PhD holders from academia, industry, science communication, politics, public and health sectors, education and more will show you the broad range of potential careers after a doctorate and give you inspiration for future career choices. We will have plenty of time after each talk for questions, discussion and networking.

 

The event in May is canceled due to the public holiday.

 

In June, Dr. Sven Dethlefs, a global pharmaceutical executive, who is an alumnus of the institute of Biochemistry of FU Berlin, will be our guest. He recently worked at Teva Pharmaceuticals, Philadelphia, USA.

Nicht erst seit dem 7. Oktober 2023 kommt es im Kontext von Universitäten und Hochschulen zu antisemitischen und rassistischen Situationen im Zusammenhang mit dem Nahostkonflikt. Auch für Lehrende und Beschäftigte der FU Berlin stellt sich daher die Frage, wie sie in diskriminierenden Situationen reagieren und Betroffene unterstützen können.

Running Against Cancer // May 26, 2024

 

The Berlin School of Integrative Oncology (BSIO) again invites all running enthusiasts and supporters from young to old to run and cheer for the good cause on May 26, 2024.

 

So get your running shoes out and lace up for the following running categories:

  • Walking (3 km)
  • Kids run (1 km)
  • 5 km & 10 km run

 

The proceeds will be used to fund an exciting cancer research project. You can find out more about the research project and the researchers on site.

Lean Library now available at Freie Universität Berlin

 

Lean Library is a free, privacy-compliant browser plugin. Once installed, it directs you to digital content available through the University Library or to open-access texts, no matter where you search – Google, Google Scholar, Wikipedia, JSTOR, Amazon, etc.

For example, if you search for articles on Google, Lean Library will provide a link to a full-text version available for Freie Universität members. Information about the availability of physical copies also shows up in this case. If the text you are looking for is not available through the University Library, Lean Library indicates an open-access version if there is one.

BUA Call for Open Science Ambassadors // Deadline: June 3

 

The Berlin University Alliance is looking for motivated Open Science enthusiasts who want to help their colleagues to implement Open Science practices into their research routine and to organize events with speakers that inspire on that topic. Open Science Ambassadors can participate in networking events and trainings, will receive funding of 4000€ for the organization of own events (per faculty for one year) and are formally acknowledged and visible at the faculty as an expert for Open Science.
