Online Workshop “Introduction to data analysis with R” // 29-31 Aug + 1 Sep / free places available

Course offer by the Graduate Center: This workshop offers an introduction to data analysis with R with a focus on statistics. In 4 workshop days we will cover the following topics:

  • Introduction to R and R Studio
  • Basics of R Programming
  • Data analysis using the tidyverse packages (preparing, filtering, grouping, re-organizing, plotting, …)
  • Some common statistical analyses with R (descriptive statistics, tests, linear models)

The main goal of this workshop is to give you the basic skills that you need to start analysing your own research data with R. You will learn a simple R workflow for data analysis, starting with reading, preparing and summarizing research data, performing simple statistical analyses and plotting the results. Starting from this knowledge basis, you can confidently expand your R skills in a direction that is most useful for your own research work.

Who is the course for? Doctoral researchers registered at the BCP department, Postdoctoral researchers at the BCP department

When? Monday, 29 August, to Thursday, 1 September 2022, 9 am – 4 pm

Where? Webex Online Course (Please note that a video camera and a microphone are necessary for this course.)

Registration: If you would like to attend the course, please register here by 19 August 2022. The registration is binding. Participation in the course is free of charge for all (post-)doctoral researchers at the BCP department. Some spots still available.

Online Workshop “Reproducible documents with {rmarkdown}” // 13 & 14 Sep, 15 Sep optional

The {rmarkdown} package provides an ecosystem for authoring documents that contain text as well as R code and its output. It is a very powerful tool for researchers using R for data analysis because it directly integrates the analysis results into reports, research papers, presentation and many other formats. All this without copy pasting, therefore creating a completely reproducible workflow.
The main goal of this workshop is to give you the basic skills that you need to start writing your own reproducible documents according to the needs of your research. Starting from this knowledge basis, you can confidently expand your {rmarkdown} skills to more complex document types and formats.

Who is the course for? Doctoral researchers registered at the BCP department, Postdoctoral researchers at the BCP department; this workshop is for people with prior experience in R and RStudio. Ideally, you have already completed an introductory R course.

When? Tuesday, 13 September, and Wednesday, 14 September 2022, afternoon; Thursday, 15 September optional

Where? Webex Online Course (Please note that a video camera and a microphone are necessary for this course.)

Registration: If you would like to attend the course, please register here by 31 August 2022. The registration is binding. Participation in the course is free of charge for all (post-)doctoral researchers at the BCP department. Please note the number of participants is limited.

3R Curriculum: September 19th or 19th-23rd

Charité 3R offers its “3R Curriculum on Animal Ethics and the 3R Principle in Biomedical Research” in September as an on-site event at Charité (Campus Mitte and Campus Virchow-Klinikum).

This PhD course introduces along the 3R principle of “Replacement, Reduction and Refinement” the current developments in this field, using interactive seminars as well as hands-on sessions. Furthermore, we will discuss ethical aspects of different methods and animal welfare in biomedical research. Please find detailed information and a tentative schedule on the Charité 3R website.

You can participate in the basic seminars at day 1 only, September 19th (course part I, workload: 0.4 ECTS-CP) or you participate in the whole course week, September 19th-23rd (course part I+II, workload: 2.5 ECTS-CP).

The courses are aimed at national and international doctoral students affiliated to any university.

Please register online using this registration form.

If you have any questions, please contact the coordinator Dr. Lisa Grohmann.
