Online Workshop “Introduction to data analysis with R” // 14-17 Mar / Registration deadline: 17 Feb!

Course offer by the Graduate Center: This workshop offers an introduction to data analysis with R with a focus on statistics. In 4 workshop days we will cover the following topics:

  • Introduction to R and R Studio
  • Basics of R Programming
  • Data analysis using the tidyverse packages (preparing, filtering, grouping, re-organizing, plotting, …)
  • Some common statistical analyses with R (descriptive statistics, tests, linear models)

The main goal of this workshop is to give you the basic skills that you need to start analysing your own
research data with R. You will learn a simple R workflow for data analysis, starting with reading, preparing and
summarizing research data, performing simple statistical analyses and plotting the results. Starting from this
knowledge basis, you can confidently expand your R skills in a direction that is most useful for your own
research work.

Who is the course for? Doctoral researchers registered at the BCP department, Postdoctoral researchers at the BCP department

When?                             Monday, 14 March, to Thursday, 17 March 2022, 9 am – 4 pm

Where?                            Webex Online Course (Please note that a video camera and a microphone are necessary for this course.)

Online Workshop “Reproducible documents with {rmarkdown}” // 29 & 30 Mar / 31 Mar optional / Registration deadline: 24 Feb!

The {rmarkdown} package provides an ecosystem for authoring documents that contain text as well as R code and its output. It is a very powerful tool for researchers using R for data analysis because it directly integrates the analysis results into reports, research papers, presentation and many other formats. All this without copy pasting, therefore creating a completely reproducible workflow.
In 2 (or 3) afternoon sessions we will cover the following topics:

  • Introduction to the {rmarkdown} package
  • Structure of an {rmarkdown} document (Syntax, Options, R code)
  • Use cases, e.g.
  • Parameterized lab reports
  • Computational notebooks
  • Reports and manuscripts
  • Bring your own data (optional on 3rd workshop day)

The main goal of this workshop is to give you the basic skills that you need to start writing your own reproducible documents according to the needs of your research. Starting from this knowledge basis, you can confidently expand your {rmarkdown} skills to more complex document types and formats.

Who is the course for? Doctoral researchers registered at the BCP department, Postdoctoral researchers at the BCP department; this workshop is for people with prior experience in R and RStudio. Ideally, you have already completed an introductory R course.

When?                             Tuesday, 29 March, and Wednesday, 30 March 2022, afternoon; Thursday, 31 March optional

Where?                            Webex Online Course (Please note that a video camera and a microphone are necessary for this course.)

Registration:                   If you would like to attend the course, please register here by 24 February 2022. The registration is binding. Participation in the course is free of charge for all (post-)doctoral researchers at the BCP department. Please note the number of participants is limited.

Web portal diversity
