According to Section 5 of the doctoral regulations, as a doctoral candidate you must prove that you are a member of the FU Berlin, i.e. if you are not employed by the FU Berlin (e.g. scholarship holders), you are obliged to enroll with the Student Records and Registration Office. Otherwise, the admission to the doctoral degree program loses its validity.

The enrollment obligation exists with the admission until the submission of the thesis.

You can find the application for enrollment here.
For questions about the enrollment procedure, please contact the Student Records and Registration Office directly.

Please note: From the winter semester 2024/2025, doctoral students are entitled to use the Deutschlandsemesterticket. If you have any further questions about the semester ticket and a possible exemption, please click here or contact the AStA semester ticket office directly.

Standardized indication of affiliation with Freie Universität Berlin in publications

Indication of official address by members of Freie Universität Berlin

a) General
All members of Freie Universität within the meaning of §43 BerlHG shall indicate on their publications the working address or the address of the institute/institution at Freie Universität in the context of which the publication was produced. The name Freie Universität Berlin must be mentioned. The email address is not sufficient; a complete postal address is required. The indication of a private address is not permitted.

b) Multiple affiliations
Members of Freie Universität who publish their research work in the context of a cooperation between different institutes within and outside Freie Universität may, in consultation with the participating institutions, indicate additional addresses in addition to their work address. In doing so, care must be taken to ensure that a separate line is used for each address. The order of the addresses is determined by the extent of the research work performed at the respective institution for this publication.

Further information, including on the formatting of the work or institute address, can be found at the following link (FU internal only): https://www.fu-berlin.de/service/zuvdocs/fu-rundschreiben/2025/20250224_Rundschreiben_Affiliationsrichtlinie_FU_V2.pdf
