Dr. Pigaleva gives a talk at Makro2025
News from Mar 01, 2025
The Macromolecular Colloquium is an annual event with a rich history. It was initiated more than 70 years ago by Nobel laureate Prof. Staudinger. Since then, it has become a gathering point for many scientists in the field of polymer science research.
This year, Dr. Marina Pigaleva was picked to give a talk entitled "Probing Polymer Dynamics in Mucus-like Hydrogels through Advanced EPR Spectroscopy." She described how EPR spectroscopy can be useful for various soft matter research questions and provided several examples from the world of mucus.
A historical fact for inspiration:
Henry W. Wieland, Nobel laureate in Chemistry in 1927, wrote to Staudinger: "Dear colleague, give up the idea of large molecules, organic molecules with a molecular weight greater than 5000 do not exist. Purify your products and rubbers, and they will begin to crystallize, thereby showing their low molecular weight." But Prof. Staudinger never gave up!
