The formation of glycosidic bonds with defined stereochemistry is known to be an extremely challenging task. However, combining cryogenic infrared spectroscopy and computational calculations can facilitate a new understanding of the role of the carbocation intermediate in benzylidene-directed glycosylation reaction.
