Open Position Scientist as Project Coordinator at FU Berlin

About us:

The Institute of Chemistry and Biochemistry is offering a position as a Project Coordinator in the field of Protein Biochemistry and Molecular Biology for a duration of three years.

The work is conducted within the framework of the collaboration between the Freund research group at FU Berlin and Nevan Krogan, the director of the Quantitative Biosciences Institute (QBI) at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

This collaboration was recently intensified through the awarding of an Einstein Visiting Fellowship to Prof. Krogan (https://www.einsteinfoundation.de/presse/2025/21012025-02/25). In cooperation with the DFG-funded Transregio 186 (https://trr186.uni-heidelberg.de/), the project aims to investigate the dynamics of protein networks within cells. A key focus will be on projects examining how these "protein topologies" change in neuropsychiatric disorders and infectious diseases.

Overview of the position:

  • Administrative preparation of project proposals, including contract management and budget negotiations
  • Compilation of essential documents for grant applications to third-party funders and foundations
  • Acting as a point of contact for scientists, funding organizations, companies, and authorities
  • Coordination of projects between different departments, reviewers, and external partners
  • Organization and preparation of a joint FU Berlin – UCSF symposium in 2026
  • Public relations and outreach

We are looking for an individual with:

  • A degree in the natural sciences (Master of Science)
  • Understanding of scientific texts and excellent writing skills
  • Experience in conducting and coordinating scientific projects in modern biology or related fields is advantageous
  • Excellent organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills, reliability, team spirit, and an independent, structured working style
  • Fluency in German and English, both spoken and written; routine use of MS Office applications

Information about the position:

  • Salary group E13 TV-L FU Berlin. The classification is based on qualifications, with the respective experience level determined by years of professional experience.
  • Working hours can range from part-time (30 hours) to full-time (38.5 hours). Please specify how many hours per week you wish to work.
  • Diverse activities within a friendly and collegial team, flexible working hours, and the possibility of remote work
  • The position is limited until June 30, 2028, as it is tied to the project duration
