Exchanges for students (bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral candidates) and staff (instructors and administrative staff) to European universities with whom we have bilateral agreements are funded through this program. The funding period can range from three months to one year. Students can also complete an internship abroad within this framework. You will not have to pay tuition fees, and you will also get a mobility grant.

You have the option of going on an exchange to partner universities outside of Europe in places like Latin America, Africa, India, China, and Japan under the same conditions as the Erasmus program. Internships in countries outside of Europe are also eligible for financial support.

Freie Universität Berlin runs about ninety direct exchange programs with partner universities around the world. You will find a number of exchange programs available with prestigious partner universities. With direct exchanges you will have to pay tuition fees, although some universities offer additional scholarships and grants. You will also need to acquire credit points.

PROMOS funds studies, research, internships, language and academic courses and group trips abroad. Students who organize their projects abroad independently, can apply for funding, even if their project or chosen destination does not fully fit into the structured programs offered by the DAAD or Erasmus+. The total funding period for studies/research and internship stays within one cycle (bachelor’s / master’s / PhD) may not exceed six months.
