Dear Erasmus+ students,
We are delighted to welcome you at the Department of Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy at Freie Universität Berlin. To help you prepare for your stay, please take note of the following information. Further information is available on Distributed Campus.
Your departmental Erasmus+ coordinator is Rafaela Münch. You can reach her at: erasmus@bcp.fu-berlin.de.
The Erasmus coordinators by field of study are:
The coordinator for your field of study is responsible for signing the Learning Agreement and answering specific questions about courses and ECTS credits. Please direct general and administrative questions (e.g., regarding the enrollment process, Confirmation of Stay/Erasmus+ certificates) to the central Erasmus+ Incoming Team at incoming@fu-berlin.de. Here you can find further information on the central Incoming Team.
To study abroad with Erasmus+, you must apply at your home university. Please inquire there about deadlines and requirements. If you have been selected for an Erasmus+ study program at Freie Universität Berlin, your home university will nominate you to the central Incoming Team. You will then receive all further information on enrollment at FU Berlin from the central Incoming Team by email.
Here you can find the academic calendar of Freie Universität Berlin. We recommend arriving at the latest at the beginning of the semester (October 1 or April 1). Exams usually take place at the end of the lecture period.
Here you will find the program for the central orientation days for exchange students.
Freie Universität Berlin uses the Online Learning Agreement (OLA) via the Erasmus+ Without Paper (EWP) platform. Please be sure to enter the name and functional address of the coordinator for your field of study as the “Responsible Person” in the OLA so that it reaches the appropriate office.
If your home university does not (yet) use the OLA, you can submit your Learning Agreement in PDF form. Please note that courses for the next semester are always updated a few weeks before the start of the semester. For this reason, you may need to make changes to your original Learning Agreement after selecting your courses.
The current course offerings can be found in the course catalog.
In addition, Erasmus+ students at the bachelor's level have the opportunity to take courses from the interdisciplinary course offer for visiting students. (German) language courses are offered by the Language Center. Please note the different registration procedure for language courses. Students have the option of taking a 6-week German course (subject to a fee) before the start of the semester.
The language of instruction of the bachelor’s degree programs is German. A few courses are held in English. Erasmus+ students must demonstrate a minimum level of German B2 for enrollment.
The language of instruction of the master’s degree programs is English. Erasmus+ students must demonstrate a minimum level of English B2 for enrollment.
An overview of the allocation of ECTS credits can be found here.
At the beginning of the semester, you can use the Campus Management platform to register for courses in your degree program. To do so, you will need an FU account (which you will receive after completing your enrollment). Information on the registration period can be found here.
Please note the difference between restricted courses (with limited spots) and unrestricted courses. Instructions for using the web application can be found here—a detailed explanation will also be provided during the central orientation days.
In the BA and MA biology programs, you must register for your courses prior to the semester start. To do so, please submit your provisional learning agreement to the Erasmus coordinator for your field of study in good time. He will check your course selection and book the courses for you. You will then receive confirmation by e-mail.
If you want to take a course that is not part of your degree program, you must ask the course instructor if you are allowed to participate. If this is the case, no further online registration is required. Instead, at the end of the semester, you will be issued a certificate of achievement, which you can submit when applying for your Transcript of Records.
You will receive your Confirmation of Stay from the central Incoming Team (incoming@fu-berlin.de).
Please request your Transcrip of Records from the appropriate contact person via e-mail:
Please use the application form. The transcript can only be issued once all credits and grades have been entered into Campus Management or are available in the form of a certificate of achievement. Processing takes approximatelyProcessing takes approximately two weeks.
The Transcripts of Records for the study programs Biology and Biochemistry are issued by the central Incoming Team. You will receive an email from the Incoming Team (from incoming@fu-berlin.de) explaining all the steps you need to take to request your transcript of records.
