Rising Star – Junior Fellowships in the Department of Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy
With the Rising Star Fellowship Program the working groups in the Department of Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy at Freie Universität Berlin have the opportunity to bring outstanding young international scientists to Freie Universität Berlin for a research stay up to two years.
The prerequisite is that fellowship recipients have neither studied at Freie Universität nor been employed at one of its institutes, and that their doctorate was completed no more than four years ago (parental leave may be taken into account). The fellowship amounts to 2,500 euros per month for up to two years. Additional benefits for research costs, mobility, family members, and health insurance are available. Funding is provided exclusively by the applicant working group.
Applications can be submitted at any time.
The fellowship program is intended to forge new connections and to advance interdisciplinary research. The Rising Star fellows will take part in the research activities of their host research groups, will be integrated into existing research networks, and will publish their results together with them.
The application can only be submitted by the working group leader. Fellowship recipients must be researchers from abroad.
How to apply
Applications may only be submitted by working groups from the Department of Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy at Freie Universität Berlin. They are to be addressed to the dean of the department and sent in one PDF file to the following email address: graduate-center@bcp.fu-berlin.de.
The following documents must be submitted electronically:
- Project outline (2 to max. 4 pages) with
- information on the duration of the fellowship (including the expected start date)
- statement on planned applications for follow-up financing
- if applicable: specific plans for cooperation with other research groups at Freie Universität Berlin
- CV with list of publications
- A copy of the doctoral certificate (if available)

We can only accept applications from the working groups at our department.
The number of fellowships is limited to a maximum of one fellowship holder per working group and up to four in total per year.
