The Linneweber group investigates the developmental mechanisms of behavioral individuality in the the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. We use methods ranging from immunohistochemistry to physiology and behavior.
We are advertising a neurobiology research assistant position (Ph.D. position) (E13, 50%). The role is limited to four years until ca. 31.01.2026. The work aims to investigate individuality in the optical and non-optical parts of the fly nervous system. The main tasks of the position include:
- Self-study of project-related literature
- Development and implementation of behavioral assays and or physiological experiments
- Statistical data analysis and writing of manuscripts
- The work serves scientific qualification (doctorate).
Required:
Completed University studies (Master in Biology, Neurobiology, or similar)
Desired:
- Strong interest in neurobiology and the study of variability (where others only see error bars, our projects begin).
- Knowledge of the model system Drosophila melanogaster
- Computer and programming skills
- Knowledge of behavioral experiments and statistics
- Fluent in spoken and written English
- Good team and communication skills
- Ability to work independently
