MSc Biology and MSc Biodiversity

Starting in the 2025/2026 winter term, there will be a new regulation for students in both master's programs: As part of the “Research Project,” 12 extracurricular events will be mandatory. These events can be attended starting in the first semester. Completion of the Research Project requires proof of attendance. The dates to be attended are part of active participation.

Dates that can be used for this purpose are announced in the course catalog under the heading “Additional Events – Extracurricular Events.

Proof of attendance at the 12 events over the course of the program is provided by means of a tracking sheet. Form still needs to be created

To do this, each student must download the tracking sheet, enter the date of each session attended, and have their attendance confirmed by signature. Persons authorized to sign at the respective session are listed in the eVV.

It is recommended that you save digital versions (photos, scans) at regular intervals in case the tracking sheet is lost.

Once all 12 appointments have been marked as attended on the tracking sheet, the tracking sheet is sent to the Biology Examination Office (pruefungsbuero@biologie.fu-berlin.de) when registering for the “Research Project” or during the course of the “Research Project.” As soon as the Biology Examination Office has received both the transcript of records and the examination protocol for the Research Project and the tracking sheet, it will enter the Research Project as completed in Campus Management.

Regulations for students who go abroad during their master's program:

All students who enroll for the first time in the winter semester 2025/26 or later must attend 12 appointments over the first three semesters. On average, this is 4 appointments per semester or 1 appointment every 6 weeks.

In the case of stays abroad and within the blocking period for maternity leave, students are exempted from appointments on a pro rata basis based on their proven absences.

Examples:

Student A goes abroad for one semester. She must complete 4 fewer appointments on a pro rata basis, i.e., a total of 8 appointments.

Student B is doing his research project abroad for three months. He must attend two fewer appointments, i.e., a total of ten appointments.

Student C is on maternity leave for 14 weeks. She must therefore attend three fewer appointments and only attend nine appointments, as stays abroad that are not divisible by six weeks are rounded up in favor of the student.
