So Close, Yet so Different: How One Donor Atom Changes Significantly the Photophysical Properties of Mononuclear Cu(I) Complexes

News vom 05.07.2022

In a recent publication published in Inorganic Chemistry, the Grachova group in cooperation with our group was able to show that the replacement of a nitrogen atom by a heavier phosphorus atom in otherwise isostructural molecular systems leads to a significant change in photophysical parameters. In this article, the synthesis of four pairs of novel Cu(I) complexes with pyridyl-functionalized phosphinines and their isostructural diimine analogues as ligands is reported. These coordination compounds exhibit triplet luminescence with MLCT character, which was studied by spectroscopic and computational methods. Congratulations to Aleksandra Paderina who did part of the work for this paper as a visting PhD student with us in Berlin and to all contributors.
