My current research focuses on investigating Cyrene (dihydrolevoglucosenone) as a sustainable, biocompatible alternative toconventional organic solvents in liquid chromatography. This green solventhas the potential to address environmental and toxicity concernsassociated with traditional mobile phases in techniques such as HPLC, SFC-MS and LC-QTOF.
To comprehensively evaluate Cyrene’s suitability, I will employ differentanalytical techniques, including Atomic AAS and ICP-MS, to characterizeits purity, metal content and compatibility with chromatographic systems. A key objective of this work is to overcome Cyrene’s currentlimitations — such as viscosity, UV absorbance, and solvent strength — tooptimize its performance in separations while maintaining its greenchemistry advantages.
