Area of responsibility of the local women’s representative and gender equality officer

Tasks

The main task of the local women’s representative and gender equality officer consists in representing the interests of all women of the department of biology, chemistry, pharmacy. Therefor she must be involved in all recruitment processes and appeal proceedings. Moreover, women and gender research is promoted in the different disciplines of the department. For this, funding exist that could be granted for projects.
Regarding the financial promotion the local women’s representative and gender equality officer offers deliberations. Other topics you can talk about with her are sexual harassment, discrimination, stalking and other similar encroachments or attacks (Guideline of dealing with sexual harassment and discrimination – German version only)

Organisation

For the entire Free University of Berlin is working the chief gender equality officer, who is organised with the other women’s representative and gender equality officer of the other university in different umbrella organizations. Beyond, there are elected local women’s representative and gender equality officer at each department, also at the institutions external to the university.
The elections take place every two years. All female members of the department vote an election committee, which consists of eight female members. These elect the local women’s representative and gender equality officer and her substitute. The chief gender equality officer (every 4 years) and her two substitutes (every 2 years) are elected by the women’s council. Latter in turn is elected by all female members of the university. The local women’s representative and gender equality officers of the Free University of Berlin meet and confer together once a month at the so called plenary session.
The members of the central women’s representative and gender equality office link up with the local women’s representative and gender equality officers to invite to various activities like the Girls’ Day.
