Research interests I am generally interested in the third generation of Neural Networks, spiking neural nets, because reproducing/modeling parts of the nervous system will give us great opportunities to understand the brain and ultimately behaviour. I think we are in need of (better) decoding schemes for the spiking activity that incorporate space and time as well as an understanding on how much the complexity of biological network models can be reduced to give the desired dynamics in computational models. Currently I am working with the neuron simulator NEST (interfaced through PyNN) on temporal differentiation and balanced networks. The results of the computer model should then be transformed such that the network performs differentiation on neuromorphic hardware.
