Information regarding the current situation
Due to the ongoing epidemic, there are several changes to the start of your masters studies. For this reason, we created this site to keep you informed about the winter term 2021/2022.
Everybody should keep in mind the following dates: 4th Oct and 5th Oct in presence and 6.Oct - 2021 course assignment! All in presence!
Those are the most important days for you pre-semester, because within this week, Dr. Zacher (office of study affairs) will distribute all the classes.
For everybody who is allowed to pre-book his or her courses, because you are a parent for example, you will be able to do so, until 4th October 2021. We will explain it on the event in presence.
In general, all lectures and most seminars will take place online. For practical trainings, all the lecturers will offer as much practical experience as possible, but certain courses may only offer online trainings as well, depending on the regulations and pandemic situation.
The Introduction Module is currently planned with on-site days on 4th Oct to 5th Oct. The scientific part will start from the 18th with lectures (online) and seminars (presence) from biology professors and translational skills seminars where you will have ample chance to get to know topics, people and courses of the MSc Biology and MSc Biodiversity. You will find the details on Blackboard.
In general, we will offer online exams, for example E-Examination@Home, Webex-seminars, oral exams or written reports or essays. Taking a certain exam for a specific course will very often require registration until a specific deadline that will be published by the teaching staff at the beginning of the course.
Being able to successfully complete your classes will be the main focus of our organizational concepts. We will therefore try to avoid overlapping courses and may therefore offer sometimes unusual hours.
We will incorporate possible changes and will help as much as possible. “We” are the staff working for you at the office of student affairs (Dr. Zacher), the student counselling office (students at the FUB) and the mentoring office (Dr. Petri and mentors).
Let’s make the best of the current situation by working all together for a great winter semester 2021/2022 at the Institute of Biology at Freie University Berlin.
P.S. we strongly encourage you to get vaccinated as only a high percentage of vaccinated students and staff will permit teaching as we all have been used to.
