In this work, we evaluate participation modes in peracetylated glycosyl cations. While neighboring group participation is generally preferred, we find that remote participation is only slightly higher in energy, specifically for mannose (via C3) and galactose (via C4). These findings deepen our fundamental understanding of protecting group participation and may help guide the development of more effective glycosylation strategies in the future.
