At the 3-Minute Thesis Regional Qualifier Berlin 2025, PhD student Dana Wehner won first place in a science communication competition hosted by the JCF Berlin of the German Chemical Society (GDCh) and sponsored by Carbolution Chemicals GmbH. Congratulations Dana!

News from Nov 05, 2025

In the 3-Minute Thesis format, participants present their research topic to a broad audience using only a single slide and a strict three-minute time limit - a challenging and highly effective way to communicate complex scientific ideas. Dana’s presentation used a slide featuring two cats to symbolize the two possible directions from which a nucleophile can approach the anomeric center in glycosylation reactions, forming either the α or β linkage. This provided an accessible introduction to the conceptual basis of her research on glycosylation mechanisms.

As part of the award, Dana has been invited to participate in the 3-Minute Thesis competition at the JCF Spring Symposium 2026. We congratulate her on this accomplishment and thank the JCF Berlin, GDCh and Carbolution Chemicals for supporting young researchers and the advancement of science communication.
