The OM core unit is embedded in the core facility BioSupraMol and the research building SupraFAB. It is situated in the SupraFAB building Altensteinstr. 23a (14195 Berlin) with satellite locations in the department's institutes Takustr. 6, Thielallee 62, and Königin-Luise-Str. 12‑16.

Instrumentation ranges from simple epifluorescence and confocal systems up to advanced microscopes for live cell, super-resolution and single-molecule imaging. Moreover, the OM core unit provides a sample preparation lab (BSL2), software and support for image analysis as well as analysis workstations
