I take part in the international research project (VW Stiftung funded): “Understanding drug resistance: Experimental evolution in a one-health context” aimed at identifying general principles of resistance evolution, divided into five interdisciplinary projects. In charge of execution of the project “Antibiotic resistance: understanding and predicting drug resistance evolution in biofilms vs. planktonic culture”: Comparing the speed and probability of resistance in model ESKAPE pathogens, mainly Staphylococcus aureus. Using static and continuous flow experimental evolution models, molecular biology & ‘omics methods with fluorescence microscopy; Providing empirical evidence to support and improve the current mathematical modelling on the evolution of resistance in chronic, biofilm related, infections.
