Werner Group - Plant Molecular and Cell Biology
Institute of Biology
Department of Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy
The research group led by Junior Professor Tomáš Werner focuses on the metabolism of the plant hormone cytokinin, specifically looking at which plant developmental programmes are controlled by cytokinin and which molecular mechanisms are involved and how. The primary aim is to gain a more precise picture of the metabolic processes regulating cytokinin concentration in the plant cells. In this research, the emphasis is on investigating cytokinin degradation and cellular cytokinin transport. Since cytokinin regulates the growth of plants, changes in its concentration can lead to an increase in crop plant biomass and yield, thus making this basic research project interesting for applied research and agriculture.
