The Department of Applied Physical Chemistry was established in July 2012. The focus of our research is on electrochemical energy technologies using innovative ex-situ, in-situ and operando methods. In order to get a detailed insight into the structure-activity relationship of nano-scaled materials, a special emphasis is placed on their systematic structural and electrocatalytic characterization. Current work deals with catalysts and electrodes for low-temperature fuel cells and redox flow batteries. We also work on topics related to lithium ion batteries and water electrolysis.
