"Copper oxide based photocathodes and electrocatalysts for the (photo)electrochemical reduction of protons and carbon dioxide"
Wednesday, 25th October 2017, 17:15 hours
Lecture Hall Takustr. 3
The use of renewable electricity to drive chemical reactions provides an approach to storing the energy from intermittent sources (solar, wind) in the form of chemical bonds. In combining photoabsorber and electrocatalytic components into integrated devices, we developed copper oxide based photocathodes for proton reduction to hydrogen, as well as carbon dioxide reduction to carbon monoxide. Looking to expand electrochemistry as an approach for the synthesis of more complex and valuable products, we are now investigating intermetallic electrodes and the mechanistic origins of selectivity for alcohol and hydrocarbon products, with an emphasis on developing new spectroscopic and spectrometric tools for in situ analysis.
