Gesa was born and raised in Tuebingen in sothern Germany. After finishing high school, she spent one year as Cultural Representative at World Disney World in Orland, USA.

Coming back from the states, Gesa did her undergraduate education at the University of Kaiserslautern. For graduate school, she moved to Wuerzburg, Germany. Her major was Neurobiology, the minors biochemistry and immunology/virology. During grad school, she spent 3 month in 2005 and 1 month in 2006 at the Human Nutrition Centre of Ageing (HNRCA) of Tufts University, Boston, USA. In 2007, she finished her diploma thesis. Before starting her PhD, spent three month at the University of Tuebingen, learning hyphenated techniques such as HPLC-MS and NMR.

Gesa started her PhD Thesis in August 2007 in Christian Freunds laboratory at the FMP in Buch and defended her dissertation in January 2012. Currently, she works in the lab as post-doc,analyzing the role of GYF-domain containing proteins in mice.
