Industrial research always takes place in the context of specific economic requirements and constraints. The art of innovation management is to design and control a creative process in such a way that the maximum scientific potential can be achieved from a technical point of view without exceeding the economic boundary conditions such as the timeline, budget or customer requirements. This paper will present a number of case studies to illustrate the professional challenges of such processes for chemists, drawing on the personal experiences of the lecturer.
